William Melton Rich was born in 1836 in Cartersville, GA. He died on August 3, 1922 in Summerville, Chattooga Co. GA. He married Mary Barilla Wofford on August 22, 1866 in Cartersville, GA. They had the following children:
1) James Tatum Rich, b. 1868, Cass Station, GA.
2) Virginia Lee Rich, b. 1868-1954 (twin) Cass Station, GA. m. Jerome McDonald McCalman in 1894 in Summerville, GA
3) Frances Charlotte Rich, 1870-1943.
4) Thomas William Rich, (1872-1940) m. Alice Mae Mattox on December 3, 1896 in Summerville, GA.
5) Virgil Andrew Wofford Rich 1873-1901
6) Nathaniel Stokely Rich (1876-1939) m. Josephine (Johanna) Mattox, sister of Alice Mae Mattox, on August 7, 1900 in Summerville, GA.
7) Mary Camilla Rich b. 1878, died in Summerville, GA, date unknown, married Herman D. Mallicoat on January 25, 1900 in Summerville, GA.
8) Alzada Lucinda Rich (1882-1904).
