Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am looking for information on William H. EDWARDS. He appears as a Clerk in Lafayette, Walker County, Georgia in the 1850 Federal Census (25 years of age and born in North Carolina and an apparent boarder. He gets married to a Mary T. Penn in Chattooga County, Georgia on Dec 31, 1850, page 168, Chattooga County Marriage Book. He will form Company H (Chattooga Rangers or Tigers), 39th Volunteer Infantry Regiment in March 1862 and he was shot by an apparent Federal spy in Cherokee County, Alabama and die at his home in Chattooga County, Georgia on January 9, 1864 and is is buried in the Summerville Cemetery. His widow filed for an Alabama Indigent Confederate Widow's Pension Application post-bellum. I cannot find this guy in the 1860 Federal Census to save my life. Can anyone be of assistance or point me to additional information?

This gentlemen is not my ancestor but I research the 39th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment. I am currently doing my Master's Thesis on the regiment's high desertion rate.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Respectfully,

Gerald D. Hodge, Jr.
Chesapeake, Virginia
