Your posting caught my eye because of the link of the family to Horace Chase from Rhode Island. Horace was also a civil war veteran but he fought for the Union, the 1st ME Heavy Artillery and also the US Navy.
Must have been a strange situation at the wedding of Horace and Martha.
I do not have complete details regarding Horace due to the fact that he apparantly used an alias when he enlisted.
If I understand his Pension Index card correctly, his alias was Horace B. Chase and his real name was Hiram G. Chase.
His civil war record indicates that he signed up as a resident of, or to fill the quota for, my home town, York, Maine.
I am hopeful that you can shed some light on the names for me. And if you have a photograph of Horace / Hiram, I would love to see it.
