Looking for any information on John Gilley/Gilly, his siblings, parents etc. John, listed in the 1820 Early Co GA Census, was married to Rebecca Hays/Hayes. John died about 1826/27. He was survived by at least 4 sons, the eldest Hays Bowdery Gilley and John Latier Gilley, the youngest, William Triggs Gilley and Nathan Sargent Gilley. William and Nathan were left orphans upon their parents deaths.

Hays Bowdery Gilley, the eldest (b 1812 GA d 1884 Caldwell, Burleson Co TX), was my grgrgrandfather. He and his wife Hancy Hall were in Texas by 1835 with a head right in Brazoria Co TX. I have found no record of John Latier. Hays and John may have already been out on their own by the time William and Nathan were orphaned.

William and Nathan can be found together in Florida Seminole Wars. Nathan died about 1856. William lived to 1893 and settled in Manatee County, Florida. The author of a site on William and his descendants states:

"William was born in Early County, Georgia in 1820. His father, John Gilley, died in 1826 leaving him and his brother, Nathan S. Gilley orphaned. John Gilley is in the 1820 Early County census as being +45 years of age with two sons under 10 and one female 26-45 years of age. There are numerous guardianship papers in the Early county records from about 1826/27 through the 1830's for both Nathan and William." The author states having no knowledge of William before 1852 when he appears in FL.

I have numerous details on the descendants of Hays B. Gilley and some on William T. Gilley. Willing to exchange info.
