Sue: Yes, it is a bit odd for her to have had four marriages, but she did have a tough life. I've been told that Frank Thornton was very abusive to Annie and their daughter Alice. In fact, family tradition has it that Frank would take Annie and Alice behind the house and threaten to shoot them. Finally, Annie had the courage to complain to the local authorities, at which time Frank ran away. Annie may have heard a story that Frank had died (or been killed), and wanted to move on with her life (and provide for her young daughter. In that day, it meant getting married again. I'm not sure why she married so many times, but the marriage to William C. White was just bad luck. I really believe Annie thought that Frank Thornton was deceased when she married William C. White. When that marriage was annulled, she moved on and married Jesse Moore. Perhaps Jesse died...I'm not certain. And, you are right about D.S. Sharp. He and Annie show up in the 1920 Census nearby to Marvin and Alice White. As for the Irvins, Elisha, Jerusha, and Anna (Annie) Irvin are in Pike County in the 1870 Census, and relocated to Hall County by the 1880 Census. I so wish that we had the 1890 Census...that might help to answer some of my questions. Elisha died 08 Aug 1885 in Jackson County, and Jerusha passed away on 24 Apr 1919 in Madison County. She is supposedly buried near Ila, GA. Anyway, I appreciate your help. Let me know if you come across anything else. Thanks, Robert Notify Administrator about this message?
