This is a black family. Martin and Sallie appear in the 1910 and 1920 Federal Censuses for Stephens County, Georgia. He was born about 1855-57 in South Carolina (same birthplace for his parents), and she and her parents were born in Georgia.

Martin and Sallie were married about 1897, a second marriage for him, a first for her.

The 1880 Federal Census for Union County, South Carolina shows some promising LITTLEJOHN folks. Might be worth looking at the 1870, too. 1860 might be tough.

Good luck!
