William,
I appreciate the help and I hope you guys who volunteer to help are getting stars for your crowns.

I do have the death certificate and found the obituary while I was searching for another article / interview Dora gave when she was 101 years old [she mentions sitting on a horse's back and watching Sherman's men pillage her mother's home and livestock in Savannah]. Dora is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the Chambliss District, between Americus and Andersonville. There was a church there at one time, but it is long since gone. Her husband John Hooks Howell is buried next to her and her mother Martha Jackson Mills Leger is buried on the other. I'm having those graves repaired and proper headstones put in since I saw the awful state they were in when I was there a few weeks ago.

In the 1920 census where you found her, Bertha is the daughter who married the E. W. Odom that Dora was living with at the time of her death in 1942. I don't know when Bertha married E. W. Odom [can't find it in my Sumter County resources] and the only address it lists in the article is RFD Byromville, Georgia. I didn't find any Odoms buried in the cemetery with Dora. I am trying to find this Odom family and descendents because they may have the only links to information about Dora's origins and those of her husband [John Hooks Howell].

I would be happy to send you the article if you would like to see it. The interview she gave at 101 years is very interesting as it mentions slaves [among many things] and they way Georgia changed over the century she lived.

There are no volunteers listed in the counties I need for this search, but again, thank you so much for your help and the links you sent. I'm sure they will be useful down the line.

Mona
