Greenwoods in Burnt Hickory, GA

I've traced the Greenwood branch of my family back to the 1880 census, but beyond that, records are spotty and common names keep popping up.

My great grandfather, Thomas L. Greenwood, was born in Georgia in 1892. In 1920, his family lived in Ellisville, MS; his wife, Minnie Lee (born ca. 1897, maiden name unknown), was born in Alabama.

I believe Thomas was born in Burnt Hickory, GA, to William Greenwood (born ca. 1852) and Fannie (born ca. 1857, maiden name unknown); William's father was from South Carolina, and his mother from Tennessee. Fannie's parents were both from South Carolina.

Thomas and William were both farmers, according to the census.

This is where my trail runs cold.

Has anyone traced back to similar ancestors?

-David
