My Grandfather mentioned to me that the name Gabaldon derives from the Basque country of Spain. However, the name does not sound nor have I heard of many Gabaldon's in the Basque area. Although not a real popular name you will find more Gabaldon's on the Mediteranean coast. I drove through the town Gabaldon but I failed to ask any questions as to why it was named Gabaldon. Someone wrote prior that the town was close to the Basque country. Unless there are two towns, the one I visited is closer to Valencia.
