Research and going to Scotland after my grandfather told me the stories. The McGage clan (of which the Gabbards of the Shoal came to join in the battle because they were their family clan) is listed on the memorial in the Culloden Moor of 1746. I have been able to get some info that goes to the time of Rule of Kenneth MacAlpine who was born 800 AD. The names are listed in old archives in Scotland and almost impossible to see and find. This era was called the Pictish rule. In 839 the orginal Gael were almost wiped out by the Vikings being mistaken as Pics and repopulated from there as the true Gaels. The following link will take you the history of the eras: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/history/eras/reformation_and_civil_war/ The map shows the lay of the land and how the settlements were setup over the centuries. These are brief history of the formation of the clans and very interesting. This link will relate back to the above site but per each individual battle: http://www.rampantscotland.com/features/battles.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
