Jean, thanks for your response. I have two questions, though, which I hope you can clear up.
First, I will paste my notes for a James and Julia Gabbert who have a son Paul born Oct 1879:
1870 Platte Co. MO census (p 523 #1766 Weston PO) lists James Gabbard 33 farmer $3000/$800 b IN; Julia A. 31 NY; Cicely M. 10 (female); George B. 7; Sarah 5; Clara 5; and Martha 2, all born Missouri.
1880 Grayson Co. TX census (ED 8 p 57 house #9) shows Jas. B. Gabbatt [sic] 43 IN (father b KY, mother IN); Julia 41 NY; Geo. B. 17; Sallie 15; Clara 15; Martha 12; Mary 8; Frank 6, all born Missouri; and Ella 3; Paul b Oct 1879, both in Texas. Next door was Geo. M. Gabbart 40 IN, with his wife Nancy and 7 children, all born MO except youngest in Texas. Looks like a brother to James.
1900 Grayson Co. TX (ED 94 p 13) shows Julia A. Gabert b Aug 1837 NY, and Paul b Oct 1879 TX, with Nora Ramsey, boarder, b Feb 1886 Texas. Same page is George B. Gabert b Dec 1863 MO with wife and four children. Nearby is Frank J. Gabert b Aug 1871 MO. Think these two are also children of James and Julia.
Next I will paste census notes for Paul and Clara Holder Gabbert:
1910 Grayson Co. TX census (ED 77 p 30A, family #581) shows Paul Gabbert age 30 TX (father b MO, mother b NY) md 9 years; Clara 26 TX; Calvin 7; Lucile 5; Pauline 4; and Guy 16/12, all born Texas.
1920 Atoka Co. OK (ED 9 p 12A Lewis Twp) lists Paul B. Gabbert 40 TX (both parents b Missouri); Clara 34 TX (fa mo MO, mo b TX); Calvin 17; Luceal 15; Guy 11; Mildred 7; Bill 5; and Julia 1 11/12, all born Texas.
1930 Grayson Co. TX (ED 91-60 p 4!/290) lists Mrs. Cary J. Gabbert widow age 46 TX, with Milton E. Holder widow 82 MO (both parents b Mississippi); Mildred 16; William 15; Julia 12; Earl 8 and Edna 8. This would mean that her husband, Paul, had died before 1930. So perhaps his death was in 1924 instead of 1934?
On Clara's gravestone in the Fairview Cemetery, it reads that she wed Paul B. Gabbert Aug 1901.
Information on the family of Paul and Clara came from descendants Julia Gabbert Lewis and her daughter Janice Lewis.
Someone in the Lewis family said they thought Paul's parents were William Bates Gabbert and Dosie Stewart, but I've been unable to find them. Ira Gabbert reported in March 2003 that his parents were James and Julia Gabbert. I find a Paul b Oct 1879 TX with a Julia A. Gabbert in the 1900 census of Grayson Co. TX.
Is the Paul b Oct 1879, son of James and Julia, the same Paul that married Clara Holder? If Clara is a widow in 1930, then her Paul had to have died prior to that. Thanks for your help!
