Charles was born 1/30/1839. Prv.,Co. K. Enlisted Blue Sulphur Springs 3/10/1862. Present untill discharged for disability 7/9/1862. Reenlisted Lewisburg 3/1/1803. Absent on detail in QM dept. Dublin 4/1864. Paroled Charleston 5/10/1865. 5" 91/2", light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair.
His marker is in Morningside Cem. Renick, WV. His mother was Mary Margaret Gabbert, b feb. 2, 1891 in Rich Hollow d. feb 21, 1891. Her marker is same place as Charles. His father is unknown. No marriage record for her at all. She is the daughter of Jacob Gabbert and Elizabeth ( Betty ) Handley. Jacob was born 1768 Augusta County, VA. Died Oct. 21, 1828. Record of death at Old Stone Church, Lewisburg, WV. Elizabeth was born to William Handley and Keziah Cales. Her baptism record is at St. John's church in Middlebrook, VA.
Jacob is the son of Jacob Gabbert that was born about 1732. He died May,21. 1810. Will is in Augusta County Va, Lists all 13 children
