Well, I don't know if I'm directly related to William and Elizabeth Fletcher Lockhart. I've been trying to find the parents of my John William Lockhart for over a year. One of the clues, as I see it, is that he's living in the same household as Rachel and Robert Stanhope in the 1850 and 1860 census records. I thought Rachel might be related to my John William as his wife died on 28 Jun 1858 and in 1860 he's listed in the household with his three sons and Rachel and her son Harrison. A friend found the Rachel Lockhart, Robert Stanhope marriage 27 Sep 1835 in Clark County, IL, (where John William spent most of his later life) so thought if I could just prove who she is, I might be closer to proving his parentage. I've suspected that William and Elizabeth Fletcher Lockhart were his grandparents through either their son Thomas or their son William, who married Rachel Lamb 23 Jul 1818. So either of these Rachel's could be the Rachel that married Robert Stanhope. If it's Rachel Lamb then she's probably John William's mother and if it's Rachel Gabbert then she's John William's aunt.... or not!

I expect I'm just getting more confusing in trying to explain this but don't know where else to turn until I can get out to Indiana/Illinois and see if I can find records.

Do you know when George Brittain died? Was it before 27 Sep 1835? How did she get from Washington County, IN, to Clark County, IL, is another question I'm wondering. So many questions, so little time.

Ideas?

Shirley
