Do you mean the 1880 census? It says his (John William Lockhart) parents were born in, oh what a surprise, Unknown.
Most of his census records say he was born in Indiana but one says Illinois so I'd say it's one of the two.
I sort of sorry it isn't your Rachel, but it still could be Rachel Lamb. I'm not sure how to determine which Rachel it was. I'm going to try to request the record but don't know if I'll have much success since it was older than the marriage records we found in Clark County, IL, when we were there last year.
