Hi, I am researching my husband's family name of GEBBIE - this also gets misspelt i.e
GUBBY, GABBEY etc. I think the original name is Gebbie and there are quite a few about. I recently sent for some birth certificates - only to find the name GABBEY instead of GEBBIE.

My GEBBIE family come from Ireland. I have got back to 1813 with the birth of HUGH GEBBIE in County Down, Northern Ireland (Ireland as it was then). He had quite a large family, approx 12 children. One of those was a WILLIAM GABBEY, he was a weaver in 1865 living in Ballyblack, Newtownards, County Down, Ireland. He married Margaret Barr and they had two children so far, Hugh Andrew and Margaret. After 1867 I can't find the family, so I am wondering if they
emigrated.

I don't know if you know but the name GEBBIE
originally came from SCOTLAND, to be exact
Galston, Ayrshire since 1500.

I hope we can be of help to one another.

BERYL
