very strange....I have many Gable relatives living in AL and SC around that time. I have also seen their name spelled Gabel. I believe the name was originally spelled Gabel and then changed. The strange part of this is that I have not seen any direct Cherokee ties during my research, yet I have heard a story from my mother told to her by her grandmother (Missouri Belle Gable) that there was "Cherokee blood" in this line. The story was that a relative somewhere along the line married a beautiful Cherokee woman. Perhaps you are one of my Gables? Have you seen the web site "Gable family of the South"? I would like to know more about the line leading up to William. Perhaps you are a "cousin"?
