Gabel Family Genealogy Forum

My ancestors are Johann and Josephine Gabel who came from Germany in 1854 to Fon Du Lac County Wisconsin. Their son Frederick (b 1839) I found out today, moved at some point prior to 1868 to Floyd County, Iowa and married Agenes Deville, and apparently did very well for himself.
When Johann and Josephine moved to Fon Du Lac, they lived next to William (b 1828) and Catherine Gabel. They had 3 children in 1860, William, Francis and Catherine. They are not listed on any census after 1860. I think their sons may have stayed behind though, and I mistakenly thought that William had passed away when I found them with a wife named Catherine married to a Mr. Brown. They must have just been borders and it was a coincidence.
Looks like there were 9 children who actually came here. There was Anton, Frederick and my ancestor Theo, and now William. I think what's going on here is that there were families who were friends with each other, and they all had family members that were living both in the Fon Du Lac County area, and also Iowa, and then later Chicago. We found a Metz (my great grandfather's wife) in Floyd County as well. The Metz's lived in Fon Du Lac and Chicago.
I'll be fleshing this all out within the next year and will provide updates. Anybody have questions, glad to answer.
