We are also looking into the origins of our family of Gabriels. We know my husband's great grand father came to Australia in 1847 from Martinique. Family history suggests the family originaly came from France to Martinique then here to Australia. We believe there may be more descendants in Martinique but have not had any success at this time tracking them down. We are led to believe they originated in the South West region of France (Gascony region?) but have no firm information to back this up at this stage. Not sure if this helps you, but if anyone is aware of any "Gabriel" family in Martinique we'd love to hear about them.
