Hi Randi and I've got a bit more info: My grandfather, Martin, came thru Ellis Island in Feb. 1895 and was vaccinated there on April 1 of the same year. Have also been finding some info from the area from which he comes and found some other Gabriels from address books from the years 1935 and 1927 the names being: Ernst, Frieda, Karl and Klara. My Gabriel family was jewish, so it's almost to assume that these connections, if they were also jewish, don't exist any longer. I don't know how my parents met, but my mother came from Ohio, so it could be a connection. I also know there were some conversions in the Gabriel family...Further, I have located the films on which the jewish birth, death and marriages from Germany towns are listed. That's all for now, Jane
