So far I've only seen one census saying Albert was born in France. They all say New France, Canada, or Canada France. Sophia is sometimes listed as Canadian. In my hometown her obituary said she was a "lovely French woman." She must have spoken french. It doesn't mean much if they did have him as Canadian. He may have lived in canada before coming to the USA. I did find out an interesting fact. If a male citizen in that day married a foreigner they got automatic citizenship. If a woman married a foreigner her husband was not automatically made a citizen and I believe I read that there was a time limit for a person to become a citizen while married. His children would automatically be citizens but not the husband. I'm certain they went back to canada if one of the children was born there. Where in canada was the youngest daughter born? One puzzle the NH and VT thing is due to when they bacame states. If they were in Colebrook they would have been in one state or the other depending on the year. Now, Colebrook is right about on the Canada border. Easy to cross over to Quebec. When everyone moved to lewis county NY where my Sophia was married to Benjamin Jeffers it was easy access to get there and also easy access to get to Belleville where Sophia and Benjamin died. BTW I'm not saying Albert wasn't born in France. He may have been born in france for all I know. I do think he came to the USA from Canada and moved back there after marrying. Do we have a burial PLACE on Albert?? Leona Notify Administrator about this message?
