Hi William

Although your cousin has been dead for a decade, he was the man who gave me my first job as the greenskeeper and gopher at St James Roman Catholic Church in Montague when I was 12. I had the job until I went to college, and it helped pay for college, in fact.

Father Gacquin was a funny man, which is rare in a priest as far as I can tell. He was a warm, giving, extremely intelligent, and ridiculously hard working individual, running two churches and a school in a very big geographic area. He was a big influence on my life, and enforced my own capacities for strength, compassion, and spiritual development. Of the many regrets in my life--we all have them, after all--one of the biggest is that he did not live long enough to meet my fiance and be the priest who performed my marriage ceremony.

Not sure why I wanted to tell you that. But I did.
