Brendan,
Nice to see a new name come up on this site. I have put some background information on the Gacquin name on this site already you will find in further down the listings under "Information on Gacquin Name 1 2 3 etc". It may be of some interest to you. The name Gauckwin and Gacquin are one and the same if you go back to the late nineteenth century. When your family and others of the name moved to U.K. the spelleing changed to a more phonetic one. If you look through the notes you will see that I have found many variations, but as it a less common name in Ireland it is relatively easy to track down. All families seem to originated from the east Galway and later south Roscommon part of Ireland.
I will check notes sent to me some time ago by Stewart Brennan and see where your branch fit into the picture as he and Mary Kay know most about the families who moved to your part of England. Most of my relatives emigrated to the U.S. rather than U.K. down the years from about 1860 on if not earlier.
Sincerely,
William Gacquin
