THE AUSTRALIAN CONNECTION
[BX] William GADDES the son of Richard GADDES, a blacksmith, and his wife Christina, born circa 1832 in Cumberland ENGLAND, married Jane MACKAY on the 21st July 1856 at Dungog NSW Australia. Jane, born on the 26th March 1840 at "Croom Park" on the Williams River at Dungog, is presumed to have been the twelfth known child of Angus MACKAY and the seventh known child of his second wife, Christina MACKAY. William died on the 12th April 1902 at Kempsey NSW and is buried at Bowraville NSW. Jane died on the 10th December 1931 at Bowraville and is buried in the local cemetery.
William and Jane had twelve children - William GADDES, Richard GADDES, Angus GADDES, Christina GADDES, Augustus GADDES, James GADDES, Robert GADDES, Duncan Forbes Mackay GADDES, St Clair Alexander GADDES, Jessie GADDES, Jane GADDES and Hugh GADDES.
[BX1] William [Willie] GADDES the first child and first son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 14th May 1857 at "Horseshoe Flat" Williams River Dungog, married Emma BYRNES the daughter of Patrick [Paddy] BYRNES. Emma died in childbirth in 1894.
Willie and Emma had eight children - Duncan Forbes Mackay GADDES, William GADDES, Alfred GADDES, Emma GADDES, Jessie GADDES, Elsie GADDES, Richard GADDES and Norton Clyde GADDES.
The second marriage of [BX1] William [Willie] GADDES the first child and first son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY was Esther Adina BROWN. Willie died in 1942 in Esk QUEENSLAND Australia Willie and Esther had six children - Ivy GADDES, Lillis GADDES, Cora GADDES, Kenneth GADDES, Douglas GADDES and Colin GADDES.
[BX2] Richard [Dick] GADDES the second child and second son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 6th October 1858 at Go Go Plains west of Wauchope NSW, married Rosena [Rose] ANDERSON.
Rosena had been previously married to a Mr MOONEY to whom she had one child - Eileen MOONEY. Richard was killed accidentally on the 19th September 1907. He is buried in the Bowraville cemetery.
Richard and Rosena had four children - Richard Henry GADDES, Robert GADDES, George GADDES and Cecil GADDES.
[BX3] Angus Murdoch GADDES the third child and third son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 19th June 1860 at Go Go Plains west of Wauchope NSW, married Rosena [Rose] GADDES, the widow of his brother Richard,
Angus died in 1952 and is buried in the cemetery at Macksville NSW.
Angus and Rose had five children - Evelyn GADDES, Angus GADDES, Rosena GADDES, Ida GADDES and Reginald GADDES.
[BX4] Christina GADDES the fourth child and first daughter of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 12th May 1862 at Go Go Plains west of Wauchope NSW, married John Patrick BYRNES on the 27th December 1880 in Sydney NSW the son of Patrick BYRNES. Christina died of cancer on the 11th November 1923 in Sydney.
Christina and John had fourteen children - John Patrick BYRNES, Evelyn [Emma] BYRNES, William BYRNES, Jane BYRNES, Erimma BYRNES, Elisha St Claire [Dike] BYRNES, Christina Ruby [Ruby] BYRNES, Clare BYRNES, Freda BYRNES, James BYRNES, Milfred [Milord] BYRNES, Amelia BYRNES, Cecil BYRNES and Thelma BYRNES.
[BX5] Augustus Mackay [Gus] GADDES the fifth child and fourth son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 12th May 1864 at Go Go Plains west of Wauchope NSW, married Annabelle A. BROWN. Gus died in 1968 and is buried in the Bowraville cemetery.
Gus and Annabelle had ten children - Eric GADDES, Mabel GADDES, Oswald GADDES, Myra GADDES, Eric GADDES, Colin GADDES, Irene GADDES, Elgy GADDES, Joyce GADDES and Basil GADDES.
[BX6] James GADDES the sixth child and fifth son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 28th June 1866 at Go Go Plains west of Wauchope NSW, married Catherine [Kate] SUTTON. Kate was the daughter of Tom SUTTON and his wife Ellen. James died in 1949 and is buried in the Macksville cemetery alongside his wife who had predeceased him.
James and Kate had eleven children - Elva GADDES, Thomas GADDES, Chlorine GADDES, Kathleen GADDES, Myrtle GADDES, Iris GADDES, Jane GADDES, James GADDES, Katherine GADDES, Alexander GADDES and Dorothy GADDES.
[BX7] Robert GADDES the seventh child and sixth son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 2nd October 1868 married Ellen McCABE. Robert died in 1949 in Sydney.
Robert and Ellen had eight children - Hillyer GADDES, Gladys GADDES, Lorna GADDES, Robert GADDES, Lionel GADDES, John [Jack] GADDES, Thomas GADDES and Ellen GADDES.
[BX8] Duncan Forbes Mackay ["Red Dunc"] GADDES the eighth child and seventh son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 13th November 1870 married Winifred Mary GORMAN. They had two children - Arthur Clyde [Bonnie] GADDES and John Harold [Jerry] GADDES / GEDDES.
[BX9] St Clair Alexander [Claire / Clare] GADDES the ninth child and eighth son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY, born on the 9th May 1874 married Dorethea [Dorothy] Elizabeth WINSLOW. Claire died circa 1964.
Claire and Dorothy had two children - Angus Erle GADDES and Mervyn St Clair GADDES.
[BXZ] Jessie GADDES the tenth child and second daughter of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY was born on the 28th March 1875 at Missabotti NSW. She died the same year and is buried on her parent' s property at Old Missabotti NSW.
BXY] Jane GADDES the eleventh child and third daughter of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY born on the 17th February 1877 at Bowraville NSW married Robert JARRETT. Jane died in 1956 in Sydney.
Jane and Robert had six children - Myra JARRETT, Elizabeth JARRETT, St Clair JARRETT, Robert JARRETT, Leoni JARRETT, and Hugh JARRETT.
[BXX] Hugh Donald GADDES the twelfth child and ninth son of William GADDES and his wife Jane MACKAY born on the 23rd May 1879 at Bowraville NSW married Elsie Emily BEATON. Hugh died in 1945 after a long illness.
Hugh and Elsie had seven children - Beryl GADDES, Hugh GADDES, Doris GADDES, Noel GADDES, Elsie GADDES, Cecile GADDES and Charles GADDES.
