Hello, I am the originator of the Gafford Newsletter and the Gafford Family Assoc.(with help from a So. Gafford lawyer).
I am glad to hear that you have the same story that I have. The southern Gaffords do not agree. My GGfather told my Mother that we were Giffords from a little town in Scotland on the coast of that same name.
I traveled there, it is truly there. We are French, cousin to Wm, later king of England. My Gaffords went from England to MD.
The first Giffords was granted 5 estates in Scotland and England, over the years the spelling has varied a great deal. England is an easy place to do research.
