I have John T. Gafford, b. 1876, prob. TX, marr. Crecy Payne (no info) on June 13, 1902. They were the parents of Roy C. 1903; Aron W. 1905; James M. 1906; Charles (this may be Carl) F. (no date).
This John is son of James Henry King Gafford (1851) and Terressie E. Marshall who married Dec. 20, 1874 in Hopkins Co. TX.
James was son of Thomas Jesse Gafford and Martha Rawsom, (both bur. Gafford Chapel in Hopkins County, Texas); who was son of William Robert Gafford and Mary Elizabeth Moore; who was son of John Gafford Sr. and his wife Fannie of VA. John was the oldest son of Thomas Gafford and Mary Elizabeth Hinton, who were immigrants to America c. 1740.
There was American Indian in the Gafford family according to family lore starting early as 1800. It must have come in on the female side as I have not found any proof in my research.
