Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
Information provided by my father, many years ago, indicates I am a descendant of Mary GAHAGAN (29 Aug 1779 – 29 Oct 1831) and William TRAVIS (27 Oct 1774 – 27 Jan 1840) via Margaret Young TRAVIS (7 Dec 1818 – 1 Jan 1887 or 1889). His notes indicate that Mary and William were married on 26 Nov 1798 and that they had the following other children: (1) Thomas (born 27 Aug 1799, died 16 Mar 1857); (2) William (born 21 Mar 1802, died 27 Jan 1877); (3) John (born 22 Aug 1804, died 27 Oct 1855); (4) James (born Jul 1808, died 28 Aug 1876); (5) Mary (born 16 Sep 1811, died 23 Oct 1883); (6) George (born 3 Oct 1813, died 5 May 1882); (7) Martin B. (born 1 Nov 1816, died 1879); (8) Robert B. (born 1 Nov 1816, died 21 Apr 1817); and (9) Joseph W. (born 30 Apr 1821, died 1885) [there is also information about a Nancy F. (born 21 Apr 1833 – after the death of Mary GAHAGAN)]. These notes are apparently based primarily on a page from a family bible (I have a copy of the page that I believe is from a family bible).
I also have some information on the family of Margaret Young TRAVIS (born in Pennsylvania and died in Paxton, Ford County, Illinois) and James GOURLEY (born 23 Aug 1810 in Ireland, died Mar 1867), including information on six children. Much of the TRAVIS-GOURLEY information comes from the 1850 Census (West Mahong Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania) and “Genealogy of Samuel Gourley and His Descendants, 1784-1909” (C. T. Heydecker, 1909).
I noticed that you have some information that I do not have and I was hoping that you might be willing to share the names of sources you have used. I am particularly interested in learning the sources of the following data: (1) the names of Mary GAHAGAN’s parents and (2) Mary’s middle name. Any assistance with this or with learning other information concerning the GAHAGAN and TRAVIS families would be appreciated. Thank you for any help that you are able to provide.
