John 1440- My 12th GREAT GRANDFATHER-John Gollop lived in 1465. He married Alice, daughter and heir of William or Peter Temple, of Templecombe, in Broad Winsor, and acquired thereby that estate with the lands of North Bowood." "Boad Winsor" is correctly spelled "Broadwinsor". Visitation of Dorsetshire, 1623 A soldier of fortune, Came out of the north, fifth year of the reign of Edmund IV, 1465. His wife Alice was heir to William/Peter thus he acquired that estate (Temple) with the lands of North Bowood.
John 1500 My 11 GREAT GRANDFATHER-In an indenture, dated, 20 Sep 1519, he appears as one of the Governors and guardians of the Fraternity of St Francis and St Christopher in Ecclesia, Netherbury, Dorset. His wife was the daughter of ______ Collins, of Nailscroft or Snails Croft, Dorset. Herald's Inquisition in 1562, cites his death in 1534. He lived in
North Bowood and Temple. Children I have are Thomas and John.
Thomas 1530 My 10th GREAT GRANDFATHER-After his father died Thomas was later under guardianship of Sir Giles Strangeways, being the possessor of Strode, N. Bowood and Temple. Children

John 1590 8th GREAT GRANDFATHER-John Gallup (or Gallop), an Ancient family, Armingers, of Dorset, Engthe ancestor "of most of the families of that name in this country". He departed Plymouth, England 20 March 1629 came to New England from Dorset, aboard the Mary and John and arrived in New England 30 May 1630. His wife, Christobel, and hischildren followed, reluctantly, on 4 September 1633, aboard the Griffin. Residences: Dorchester (1630), Long Island (part of Boston 1632), Owned Gallup's Island. John was a skillful Mariner, fisherman, pilot who, with his sons, carried on a coastal trade in his own vessels. He was owner and commander of the first vessel built in American waters.On one of his expeditions he chanced upon the murderers of his old friend, John Oldham, whom he avenged in a most frightful fashion, thus launching the Pequot War (1637).His occupation was that of Ship Owner and Pilot in the coastal New England trade. He was a thorough seaman, and as such rendered great service to the infant colony, whose fishing fleets were the chief sources of income and needed protection, and where Indians ravaged the coast. He received grants of land for his services, and was one of the founders of Boston.Made Freeman 1631. Fought and won the first American sea fight off the coast of CT 1636 John Gallop Marston Co, Dorset. (mar 1) Christobel Crabbe (m2) Hannah Lake. Children: 3 bapt 1615, 16, 17 at Mosterne, Dorset and 6 bapt 1618, 20, 22, 25, 29 in Bridport, Dorset. 5 of the ch. died young. Religion: member of Old South Church, Boston. Had his military education in Holland, where he served under Fairfax in the war with Spain. His will was one of the first recorded in Boston.
John 1615 7th GREAT GRANDFATHER-Capt. John Gallop, Jr. was baptised 25 January 1619 at St. Mary's, Mosterton, Dorsetshire, England. He died at Narragansett Fort (now South Kingston, RI) while participating in the Narragansett Swamp Fight during King Philip's War and was buried near the scene of the fight. He arrived in Boston, MA aboard the Griffin 4 September 1633. He was a Ship Owner and took part in the coastal New England trade. She arrived in New England aboard the Abigail 6 October 1635. Residence: Boston (1637), New London (1651), Taunton ? (1643), Stonington (1654). DEATH: Cause - died in the "Swamp Fight" at the Narragansett Fort - 1675, the hardest battle of Philip's War.

Born in Dorchester ENG, son of John I - came to Boston with his mother, two brothers and sisters, 1633. Served with Mason & Stoughton in Pequot War, 1636-7. Called to become first Sheriff of Plymouth Colony in 1640. Married at Ipswich, Hannah Lake, niece of Mrs. Winthrop and daughter of Mme. Margaret Lake, in 1643. With Winthrop, Mme Lake, Cary Latham and others, John Gallup was a founder of New London. He moved to a grant from the General Court upon the Mystic River, where he built and planted the Whitehall Estate. He led 300 Mohigans into the Naragansett's Fort Fight, Dec 19, 1675, and fell at the head of his faithful followers. IMMIGRATION: landed Boston 1633 on ship Griffin ... age 18 .. with his mother, 2 brothers and sister note: his father seems to have come over 3 years earlier.
