John J. "Jack" Galvin formerly of Sleepy Hollow The family and friends of John J. "Jack" Galvin, 72, of Vero Beach, Fla., will meet for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. Burial will follow in Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee, and on Saturday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Born Jan. 26,1938, the son of the late John J. II and Marie A. (nee McDonough) Galvin, he died Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Jack was raised in the Bronx, N.Y. He served in the Army and graduated from Westchester Community College with an associates degree in electrical engineering. On Oct. 8, 1960, he married Patricia A. Harkins of Philadelphia, Pa. Jack was a 26-year employee of Allstate Insurance and having earned a C.P.C.U. and associates in M.I.M., he retired in 1991 as director of commercial claims. Jack was a 12-year resident of Sleepy Hollow. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in West Dundee and served as an extraordinary minister, choir member and parish council and building committee member. Jack was also a 4th Degree, honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Charter Grand Knight of the Siena Council and Past District Deputy. Jack was a resident of Vero Beach for the past 19 years. He was a very involved member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach as head Sacristan, parish council and building committee member, director of music ministry and choir director. He also served as president of the Countryside South Homeowners Association. Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia; and their children, Jack Galvin of Huntley, Patricia (David) Bernhard of Crystal Lake and Regina (Brett) Muscat of East Dundee. Jack is also survived by 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, James (Carol) of Glenham, N.Y. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Terrance S. Galvin on June 13, 2009. Memorials may be made to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Fla. For information, 847-426-3436.
