Joan & Kim:My grandfather came to NYC from Ireland in the early 1900s with his parents and siblings - he was the youngest - about age five, I think, his mother died, his father unable to take care of him and siblings for some reason, and my grandfather sent to orphanage on Staten Island. We've not known what happened to his siblings. When old enough to work, worked at Lord & Taylor until went to Florida with a friend of the family - a woman who eventually disinherited him because he married my grandmother - a protestant. My family has stayed in Florida.
