I am in the same position as you - my great-grandmother was Eliza Gamage and her father was an architect and surveyor. She married Alfred Doggett in Camberwell, London.
What is interesting I have found information on the Doggett family on the Internet and like the Gamages, they were prominent in Tudor times, they were mercers and as gentry families tended to marry other gentry families there are many links with the Tudor court. It would be great to establish a link!
The Doggett family were based entirely in East Anglia, but what is interesting for me is that the Gamages are mainly based in South Wales with West Country links and as I live in Bristol it would make it possible to research. There is even links with Mangotsfield and St George, parts of Bristol that I am very familiar with.I am thinking possibly of catching a train to Bridgend and having a look at Coity Castle.
