In my Family Line there is an Arthur N. Garden. He was dead in 1871 because the census in Ontario lists Jane Gardenas head of the Household. She is listed as being born in Nova Scotia. (I don't know her maiden name - on the marriage certificates of her sons William & Edward Arthur she used her married name. This is also where I got Arthur N. from)
They lived in a village called Carlisle just outside of London Ontario in Middlesex County.
We also have the story passed down that we are descended from Dr Alexander Garden of Charleston S.C. (The story says that Dr. Garden a famous Botanist after which the Gardenia is named, was a Loyalist in the Revolutionary war. His concern for his family had him send them off to Nova Scotia but he stayed. He was subsequently ordered out of South Caraolina in 1782 and returned to England where he died in 1792. Others doing research onDr. Garden have no record of his family going to exile in Canada. However one has a son returning to claim the property. I unfortunately have not followed up too much lately on this aspect)
I am very interested in Gardens from Nova Scotia who appeared there in 1770's and had moved on into Ontario.
