Looking for the parents of Dowell L. Gardner

We are hoping to find the genealogical heritage of Dowell L. Gardner born between 1816 and 1818.
He married Minerva Richards on Oct. 23, 1843 in Virginia, USA. They had 2 sons James Monroe Gardner (b. 1844 and d. in Lancaster, England) & Alexander Zachariah Gardner (b. 1846). Both sons were born in Orange Co., VA. --- Their Gardner family history states that the name was spelled as Gardiner in Virginia in the late 1700s.
Furthermore, there is a strong, almost perfect, Y-DNA match between the contemporary male relatives of Alexander Zachariah Gardner (b. 1846) and contemporary male relatives of Dr. Arthur Stoker Gardiner, Dublin, Ireland (b. 1818). Arthur's father's name was John Gardiner who owned a significant amount of property in the south of Ireland.
