Suzanne, let me give you what background I have.My friend was born in Catania Sicily and moved with family to America shortly after that.As far as I'm aware, they went directly to Detroit area (Dearborn?) where he owned a furniture store and later a vegetable standmarket. It was bombed out by The Black Hand during the 20's-30's.She was born April 3, 1921.She told me that when she was about 8 they re-visited Catania, and went up near Mt. Etna, where the rocks were still hot from the volcano that happened 20 years befor (not sure of the dates).when I asked her about her name, she told me it wasn't Italian, but had been italian-ized.I'm sure people migrated to Sicily from some other area of Europe and the name was changed.I just don't know how.She had a brother namedAntonio, and her name was Petra.I don't know her parents names, tho' I guess I could find that out.I wonder if you are related in some say to that Garrisi family.Giovanni is a pretty popular name. How old would your grandfather have been?
