Thank you SO much for responding to my message. We have information that Hebert (or John Hubbard or Herbert) was married 2nd to a Mary READ on 02DEC1865 in Columbia, AR. Did he marry Mary SMITH after that? Or was Mary SMITH a widow of a READ? We have only found the "Marry" SMITH listed also on Henry Clay GARLINGTON's death certificate and father not known. This comes from Thesta Scogland's book. I have Henry Clay's birthdate as 03SEP1868 LA.
In the 1870 census Mary appears to be 25 years old, so I guess it is not impossible that she was married to a READ before Hebert GARLINGTON. Perhaps her husband died during the Civil War. Just a guess.

I don't see a Jesse Washington GARLINGTON listed in the Garlington Book, but I suspect it is quite incomplete. It sure hasn't helped us a lot with our Mary J. GARLINGTON who was "probably" the daughter of Hebert. I would love to exchange any information that might help you. And I would sure like to know what you have, as well.
Thanks so much for the help!
Dolores Davis
