Jo Ann,

Thank you so much for your quick reply to my query. Your information solves some real puzzles for me. I will look for the book you mentioned. I have Elizabeth Houghton born in El Paso on the same day that you noted. Maybe Franklin, Texas is near El Paso. I found their tombstones in the cemetery at La Junta but didn't know about the adoption of her sister's children and the next generation, etc.

One of the mysteries I'm trying to solve is the burial place of Elizabeth's father, Judge Joab Houghton. He was a prominent politician in early New Mexico history (1848-1876) but no one, including his living descendants, know where he is buried. Some information exists that he was buried in the Masonic cemetery in Las Vegas, NM (which is probable), but the Masons there don't have a record of him, and a search of the cemetery failed to come up with a tombstone.

So, thanks again and good luck with your research.
