For those of you that are descended from Laurens Co. settler, John Garlington, if you haven't already done so, you should contact or visit the Laurens County Library. There is a great genealogy room located at the library, call and ask for Ms. Martin - (864) 984-0596 A short history of John Garlington is listed on pgs 188-189 in "The Scrapbook: A Compilation of Historical Facts About Laurens County, South Carolina." I also found a "Garlington/Young" property listed on the 1883 Laurens County Kyzer & Hellams Map. A copy of this map can be purchased from the library. My g-g-grandfather knew the Garlingtons and one of his children married a Garlington. I have come across two Garlington letters in my grandfather's things, one is a letter from Cadet Henry Garlington to my g-g-grandfather while he was at the Arsenal Academy in Columbia dated Jan. 9, 1857. The other letter is from a former slave of my great-great-grandfather's, his name is James Henry Garlington and he was born in 1854. I will send copies of these letters to the Laurens Library. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. ~Katherine Notify Administrator about this message?
