I know about everything there is to know about Dinna (Brister) Garlington's father (Edmond Brister) and mother (Matilda Holland (Norman) Brister)because Edmond Brister is my gr-gr-grandfather. What would help you, Dolores?

What you have described about a daughter, Mary J. Garlington's son being named Thomas Brister Burrough is a spectacular connection between the two families !

That is the first tangible link between the Garlingtons and Bristers I have run across except for John Hubbard Garlington's marriage to Dinna Brister which by Brister family tradition is said to have occurred in 1848.

One thing you might be able to do for me, Dolores is the following. I have heard of Thesta Kennedy Scogland's book for several years now and have yet to find a copy.

I understand that the Garlington line (in very broad strokes)looks like:

1--Christopher (1) GARLINGTON (1617-1677)
sp - Elizabeth WYATT (-1658)
2--Christopher (2) GARLINGTON (1656-1753)
sp-Margaret JONES
sp-Elizabeth CONWAY (1704-1763)
4--Christopher (4) GARLINGTON (1729-1808)
sp- YOUNG
5--Christopher (5) GARLINGTON (1756/57-1843)
sp-Sarah YOUNG (1770-1804)
6--Benjamin GARLINGTON Rev. (1793-1870)
sp-Caroline Cynthia VICK (1806-1887)
7--Dalphin Ripley GARLINGTON (1826-1873)
sp-Mariah CLARK (1837-1914)
8--Sterling Price GARLINGTON (1870-1938)
sp-Frances Isabel 'Belle' HYDEN (1878- 1964)

Among those Garlington generations that are likely to have produced a John Hubbard Garlington who was probably born ca. 1820-1825, is it feasible for you to mail me a copy of just those pages from Scogland's book (along with the title and biblographic pages and index) so I might have a view of the Garlingtons in an organized family context? If so, my mailing address is:

Dennis Boswell
301 Crow Canyon Drive
Folsom, CA 95630

If there is too much material to copy and mail, just let me know and I will understand. I cannot think of anything else I might contribute other than anything you may want to know about Dinna (Brister) Garlington's ancestory if it would help you

If that is possible, then the generations from which John Hubbard Garlington might have been born would seem to be:

5--Christopher (5) GARLINGTON (1756/57-1843)
sp-Sarah YOUNG (1770-1804)
6--Benjamin GARLINGTON Rev. (1793-1870)
sp-Caroline Cynthia VICK (1806-1887)
7--Dalphin Ripley GARLINGTON (1826-1873)
sp-Mariah CLARK (1837-1914)

Let me know what other ideas you might have on how we can work together, Dolores. This sounds very exciting and very much like the sort of information that breaks down brick walls !

By the way, where do you live, Dolores?
