Herbert Garlington 1870 Calcasieu Parish

On page 589, THE GARLINGTON FAMILY, Thesta Kennedy Scogland has listed information for Herbert GARLINGTON and his family taken on July 14, 1870 from the 1870 Census of Calcasieu Parish, LA. "Herbert" is listed as age 50, male, white, farmer born in Mississippi.

Have any of you ever located EVEN ONE OTHER record of this male GARLINGTON's name having been recorded as "Herbert?" The reason I ask is that in the absence of even one other instance of his name having been recorded as "Herbert," there remains the very real possibility that his name may have been mispoken by the interviewee, misunderstood by the census taker or a combination of the two. Just one other instance of an original record that included his name as "Herbert" would offer strong corroboration that "Herbert" is the correct name. Without such additional evidence, there remains a strong possibility that this GARLINGTON's given name was not "Herbert" but some other similar sounding name.

I should add that on page 587 of THE GARLINGTON FAMILY, Thesta Kennedy Scogland has recorded under 7-3 that the son of Christopher Garlington, Jr. (VI) and Hannah Adams was "Herbert (Hebert) GARLINGTON" using as a reference some unspecified combination of either the 1816, 1820, 1830 or 1840 Census of Amite or Franklin Counties, Mississippi. However, the name, "Herbert (Hebert) GARLINGTON" could not have appeared, per se, in these census since only Heads of Household were named through 1840 with 1850 being the first census in which children's names appeared. Thus, it remains unclear how she surmised that "Herbert (Hebert) GARLINGTON was child 7-3 on page 587. She did, however, preface this by " would appear that the children were:"

If you have any additional information on "Herbert" GARLINGTON that might answer this question or add to our understanding of who this gentleman really was, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks much.
