My Nancy Garmon/Garman was born in VA in 1790,according to 1850 Cumberland Co KY census. She married George Shives; they are in the 1810 Cumberland Co KY census.
Years ago someone wrote that this Nancy was the daughter of Adam Garman and his wife Nancy; Adam died and the wife Nancy is in the 1810 Cumberland Co KY census along with Leonard, Isaac and Adam Garman who were brothers and brothers to Nancy Garman b 1790. This information was purported to be in the Family Bible of one Andrew J. Garman of Cumberland Co. I do not know when Andrew J. Garman died but he is listed in the 1880 Cumberland Co census, age 31 (born 1819) with 3 sons and 2 daughters. Does anyone know where Andrew J. Garman's Family Bible is? Does anyone know whos Andrew J. Garman's parents were? It sounds reasonable that if Adam Garman is mentioned in the A. J. Garman Bible, Adam Garman is A. J.'s ancestor! With Andrew J. still living in 1880 perhaps there is some record in Cumberland County as to who his parents were.
Bear with me! My Nancy Garman was born in Virginia in 1790. However, the only Garmans I can find in Virginia about that date are: Joseph in Pittsylvania Co in 1782; Jacob & Adam in MONTGOMERY CO on Aug 1,1797; John who died in 1799 in Botetourt Co; John who acquired land in Pittsylvania Co in 1792; and, John (surety) and Adam (gave consent) in Augusta Co in Feb 1800 re marriage of Eve Garmon, dau of Adam, to one John Hart.
(There are no census records for VA for 1790 or 1800.)
Is there an Adam Garman in Cumberland Co prior to 1810 who was in VA in 1790? Nancy was only 20 years old in 1810, in Cumberland Co; I doubt she went there from VA by herself.
