Rev. William D. 'W.D.' Garman, 81, of Johnson City,
Washington Co TN, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at
the Takoma Regional Hospital in Greeneville, Greene Co TN.

Rev. Garman was a native of Chambersburg, PA, and had
lived in Johnson City since 1954. He was a son of the late
William Harry and Ora Grace Martin Garman.

Rev. Garman was an Air Force veteran. He had served as the
Tennessee State Chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign Wars
for ten years and also served as the National Chaplain for
the VFW in the years of 1979 and 1980.

Rev. Garman was a retired minister with the Holston
Conference of the United Methodist Church with thirty-
eight years of ministry. After his retirement he was a
former staff member and attended Wesley Memorial United
Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Christian Garman, of
the home; one brother, Harry R. Garman, of Colorado
Springs, CO; one nephew, Donald Garman, of TX; two foster
children, Robert 'Bobby' and wife, Ruth Baker, of
Blountville, TN, and Judy Baker Chandler and husband,
David, of Tunnel Hill, GA; several other nieces, nephews;
and great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 p.m.
to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009, and also from 10 a.m.
till 11 a.m., Thursday, at the church.

The funeral service for Rev. William 'W.D.' Garman will be
conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009, in the
Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Dwight
Kilbourne, Rev. James Bennington and Rev. Paul Seay will

Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Rev. Tae Hun Yoon, Dr. Joseph
Miller, Rev. Robert Kariuki and other ministers. Honorary
pallbearers will be the ministers and their spouses of the
Johnson City District of the United Methodist Church.

Memorials gifts may be sent to the Holston Home for
Children, P.O. Box 188, Greeneville, TN 37743

The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation
to the John M. Reed Nursing Home of Limestone for their
loving care and concern of Rev. Garman.
