The name Sutcliffe GARNETT is an unusual one, but in fact there were four different individuals in Great Britain that had this particular name:

(1). Sutcliffe GARNET(T) born in 1815 and died on September 10, 1885 at Roughlee, Roughly Booth, Lancashire. He married Sarah HARTLEY on February 22, 1841 at Colne, Lancashire [marriage registered at Burnley]. Sutcliffe and Sarah GARNETT had two sons, namely Jonathan GARNETT [b. 1849] and Hartley GARNETT [b. 1855]. Both sons are named as executors on the probated will of their father, Sutcliffe GARNETT, when he died in 1885.

(2). Sutcliffe GARNETT born in 1849 at Barrowford, Lancashire and died at age 65 during the first quarter of 1914 at Todmorden. On the 1881 British Census, this Sutcliffe GARNETT was living at Colden Water, Heptonstall, Yorkshire, England [Film 1342040, RG11, Piece 4356, Folio 49, Page 3]. However his surname was spelled incorrectly as GARNNETT. He was then age 32, born at Barrowford, unmarried and working as a farm servant. He was living in the household of his widowed mother, Margaret GARNETT, who was 70 years old and had also been born at Barrowford, Lancashire. Margaret GARNETT was the principal owner/operator of a 28-acre farm in Heptonstall, Yorkshire.

(3). Sutcliffe GARNETT born on June 21, 1877 and died at age 87 on April 17 1975. His will was probated on September 9, 1975 at Manchester. The probate register gives his home address as 18 Chapel Lane, Longton, Lancashire but no executors or next of kin are named on the calendars of probate.

(4). Sutcliffe GARNETT born about 1888 at Roughlee, Lancashire appears on the 1901 British Census living at Blacko [?], Lancashire. He was then 13 years old. Because of his age and place of birth, I suspect that he may have been the son of either Jonathan GARNETT or Hartley GARNETT and therefore the grandson of the previous Sutcliffe GARNETT [b. 1815, d. 1885].

I can provide additional details about the four different Sutcliffe GARNETTs listed above. Please contact me directly at the following e-mail address:
