Cookie: In my research of the family. I ran across a reference to Richard Brooke Garnett of Virginia serving in the US Army sometime around 1840 in Washington State, had married an Indian girl and had a son (name unknown). He returned to Virginia and soon resigned from the US Army and was a Brig. General (CSA) under Jackson and later led Pichett's charge on Cemetery Ridge were he was killed. Later his (wife?) was sent to Kentucky with her son and I never was able to find any other information. Sorry. This may or may not be of help.
