C F M Garnett, Railroad Superintendent, CSA

"Col." C F M Garnett was head of the Confederate commission to identify railroad iron that could be used on other railroads, taking the iron, then providing it to the needy roads. Before the war, he had been the constructing Engineer for the Raleigh & Gaston RR and for the Western & Atlantic RR. He appears to have been living in Virginia when the war started, but I don't find him in the 1860 Census. I'm guessing he was born about 1815.
