I'm wondering if I'm related to Stephen Rogers Gerrard (Gerard), Henry Gerrard, and the other children of Nathaniel Gerrard and Susannah Rogers. I notice that Henry Gerrard and Nancy Ann Johnson (married 1845) had a daughter named Susan Ellen Gerrard.
I'm seeking information about Ellen Gerard / Gerrard / Garard. Ellen was born in 1851 or February 1852 in Indiana. She died in 1926 in Taylor Co., Iowa. Ellen married Charles Nelson Patterson (1851-1904). Ellen and Charles were married in 1872 in Stark Co., Illinois.
Eventually they ended up in Adams Co. and Taylor Co., Iowa. Children of Charles and Ellen Patterson included Alice (Patterson) Hunt, Elizabeth (Patterson), Leonora "Nora" (Patterson)Gerrard, Susan (Patterson), and Jessie "Dot" (Patterson) Stewart. Nora lived in Marshalltown, Iowa. Susan and Jessie were medical doctors who lived in Kaansas City, Missouri.
Ellen's birthplace is listed as Indiana in the census records. According to the 1890 census, her father was born in Indiana and her mother was born in Virginia. That census says Ellen was born in February 1852. Her tombstone lists her birth date as 1851.
It's possible that Ellen was also called Susan. The 1885 Iowa state census lists Charles' wife as "Susan." I don't know if that's a mistake for daughter Susan (also listed--as "Susa") or if Ellen sometimes went by Susan.
Could my Ellen have been Susan Ellen, daughter of Henry Gerrard and Nancy Ann Johnson? Does anyone know who Susan Ellen married? Henry presumably lived in Switzerland Co., Indiana. There was an Ellen Garrard / Gerard (1826-1897) who married William Henry Imel in Switzerland Co. in 1846. This Ellen would have been the right age to have been an aunt to my Ellen. Does anyone know the parents of the 1826-1897 Ellen? Was she a daughter of Nathaniel or one of his brothers?
Any help in sorting out the Switzerland Co. Gerrards would be appreciated. I suspect that my Ellen fits in somewhere. Thanks!
