Mary Magdelen Brandenburg was the daughter of John Martin
Brandenburg. John Martin was the son of Johannas Martin
Brandenburg who arrined in Charleston, SC 1752 by way of
Germany on the ship Cunliff. He petitioned for land December 7, 1752 and was granted 50 aces of land, which indicates that he had no family with him. Family legend
says that his family of three children and wife died
enroute to America and according to the South Caroline Council Journal, Daily Logg dated 22 Sept 1752, reports that the ship Cunliff was quarantined for 7 weeks in the Charleston harbor due to smallpox. This could account for
the death of Johannas' family. I was always told that the
Brandenburgs were from the Royal line of Germany, and according to Pat Bristley of Fremont, Ohio, who has researched the Brandenburgs back to Germany, (about 35
years of work), Johannes Martin Brandenburg was the son
of Solomon, who was a descendant of Dorothy Wilheim, daughter of Fredrick Wilhelm. I do not believe that the
time line would be correct for Johannas Martin Brandenburg
to be a son of Fredrick Wilhelm....not enough of years
there. I recently had a note from Pat Bristley that she
was working with someone to put her research into a books,
estimated 3 volumes, and hopefully when that is completed
(estimated this fall), we can post it so everyone will have
a chance to purchase her work. Her work has been thoroughly
researched and documented. Hope this helps. JWatson
