My research goes back to Germany where the name was originally spelled "Geringer" which means small, or little. It is now the German word for small computers. Two brothers immigrated from the Rhineland in the 1700's with the Palatine Germans that settled Germantown, PA. One remained in Pa and even served in the militia during the French and Indian Wars. His son was an officer in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.The younger brother went to Fredrick, Md, then to what is now WV and to Ohio. This second brother's line changed the spelling to Garinger, Garringer, Kerringer. The PA branch kept the Geringer. Also, the far western branch came from Russia as part of the Volga Deutch migration in the 1870s.So, there must be a line from that group that immigrated to Russia from central Germany as well.
