Engelina Gerst & Ludwig Weidner
Gerst/Garst & Weidner researchers......
"The_last_Will_and_Testament_of_Theobald_Gerst,_dec.,_being_written_
in_High_Dutch, could not be recorded but thereon is endorsed as
follows: June 13, 1770, appeared Adam Darts and Jacob German, the two
subscribing witnesses..... before Edward Shippen, June 13, 1770, last
will of Theobald Gerst, late of County of Lancaster, dec. was
proved. Letters granted to Theobald Gerst, Jun., and William Rouch
the executors named.
Notice that this basicaly states that..."June 13, 1770, last will of Theobald Gerst, late of County of Lancaster, dec. wasproved." thus Theobald Gerst was deceased by this date of June 13, 1770.
We then find the tax list entries...From the Pennsylvania Tax Lists for the County of Lancaster, Bethel
Township, Vol XVII, can be found the following records:
For the year 1771, page 157, "Gerst, Dewalt, 100 acres, 2
horses, 2 cattle, no servants, and a tax assessment of 3.6."
For the year 1772, page 237, "Gerst, Dewalt, 70 acres, 2
horses, 1 cattle, no servants, and a tax assessment of 3.0."
For the year 1773, page 386, "Gerst, Derwalt, 68 acres, 2
horses, 2 cattle, no servants, and a tax assessment of 3.0."
For the year 1779, page 680, "Gerst, Dewalt, no acreage, no
horses, no cattle, no servants, and no tax assessment."
Since all of the tax list dates are 'after' Theobalt's death, how do these entries reconcile? Are these entries for the son ...Theobalt? Since it assumed that John Nichel Gerst is the oldest son, and that all of the children had equal shares in his [elder Theobalts's estate], how did each child handle their inheritance? Did they all 'sell' their share to their brother Theobalt?
Are there any recorded entries for John Nickel Gerst? Did he marry? If so, to whom? And, if so, did they have any children.
From the item in Theobald Gerst's will regarding his daughter Engelina's inheritance, it is assumed that she was in his disfavor, as her share was to be given to her children Michael and Catherine and not allowed to have it in her hands.
The children, by most calculations, were teenagers at the time of the drafting of the will. When did Engelina 'abandoned' them to go off with Ludwig, her husband. Where did Engelina go when she abandoned her children?. Where has verified sightings of Engelina been recorded after she left? Where did she migrate? Who raised the minor children Catherine and Michael Weidner? Was there official guardiansappointed to care or their interests? Who were they? Where is this recorded?
Have there ever been any recorded information of more than one Ludwig/Lewis Weidner?Who was the Barbara found in some genealogies of one particular Ludwig/Lewis? This Barbara, in some accounts, is named Fleenor? Is this the same Ludwig?
Where do we find the first recorded event/sighting' of Ludwig after their marriage? Do we know if Engelina was with him? If so, by what record? Do we have a recorded baptismal event of the children, Michael and Catherine? If so, where?
Did the children, Michael and Catherine grow up? Where did they reside? Did they marry and have families?
In the meantime, I'll try to obtain a copy of the ..."Our Garst Family", as this appears tobe the 'source' of most of the information.
I appreciate any help that can be providedon any of these questions...or a referral to a place I might look to study the subject in more depth.
Thank you
