Dear Wayne
I am looking for information on Thornton Garth who was a clock and watchmaker, born about 1796.He had a shop in Knaresborough in 1822.On the 1841 census he was married to Elizabeth, age 45 and had a son George aged 25 who was a Butcher. His daughter, Mary Ann was born in Otley in 1827 and married George Lindsay Ternent in 1847 at St Peter's Church, Leeds. In 1838Thornton was imprisoned for 6 months hard labout for stealing walking sticks and in 1840 did 12 months hard labour for stealing a fender. He died in 1850 and Elizabeth, who was a nurse, in 1867.I found a Thornton Garth married to Ann Whitehead at St Peter's Bradford in 1814.Calverley is between Leeds and Bradford.I don't know if this is any use to you, or if you can help me.
