My grandmother was Dona Gassaway Payne. She was born in Trenton, Tx (12-20-1876). Her
father was John Henry Gassaway(born 1848)
in Cobb Co, Ga.He married B. M. Domiss.Enoch Berry Gassaway was the father of J.H.
He was born in Pickens Co. S.C. Jan.14, 1822.
The above information is from our family Bible, which belonged to Dona.Information about Enoch was written by J. H. Gasssaway.
I found J.H Gassaway on the 1880 Hopkins Co.
Preceint 6 Census.Dona is listed as a child. He was married to M.F.I have not been able to find Enoch Barry Gassaway on a census. He was a captian in 14th Texas Confederate Infantry. He is burried in the Rose Hill Cementary in Pittsburg, Tx.He died on
April 8, 1884.His grave has a CSA marker.
His wife Artemisa is buried beside him she
died May 1, 1879.(these dates from tombstone) John Henry Gassawayreceived a
pension from his servicein the Civil War. He served with his father. His grave is marked with a CSA marker. He died 12-24-1935 and is buried in the Guilde Cementary, Rankin Co. MS.According to one of my cousins Enoch had about 10 children.Somewhere there is an Enoch Barry Bible, but I don't know where and cannot document this information.
