Albert Gassaway Lynching?

I found this while researching Albert Gasaway and Franklin Gasaway, sons of Grofton Gasaway and Amanda Gasaway.

I am also seeking living male Gassaways (any spelling) to determine if the Grafton/Aggripa Gasway clan is the same clan as the Col. Nicholas Gassaway Clan.

From the non-fiction book, "Ugly Water."

The self-appointed leaders gathered near Des Peres, where it was agreed to go to Clayton and hang ... the three negroes implicated in the murder of Edgar Fitzwilliam;
... and Albert G A S S A W A Y, a young one- legged white man of South Kirkwood, who criminally assaulted Miss Coleman on Meramec Highlands...

...In the early hours of January 17, 1894, in a small village near St. Louis, Missouri, a 24 year old black farmer named John Buckner was lynched on a bridge overlooking the Meramec River. This is a story that has never been told ...The book explores the event in the larger context of Race, Justice, and its role in the fate of the town in which it happened. Everything you thought you knew about Black History--could be wrong...

... who now seemed intent on lynching one or all of the prisoners in the County Jail, white or black: The self-appointed leaders gathered near Des Peres, where it was agreed to go to Clayton and hang Jim and Ed Murray and Wm. Hensley, the three negroes implicated in the murder of Edgar Fitzwilliam; Horace Johnson, the Ballwin negro; Samuel Austin, alias "Stringer," a young negro, who has confessed that he attempted to rape Misses Emma and Lizzie Baker in Webster Groves, and Albert Gassaway, a young one- legged white man of South Kirkwood, who criminally assaulted Miss Coleman on Meramec Highlands.

"Ugly Water" by Joe Wood - 2006 available for purchase online. Try amazon.com.

Clif Gazaway is researching all Albert Gazaways, hoping to learn about Grofton Gasaway's son Albert Gazaway.
